November 11- November 22, 2024
An interactive, two-week, online natural dye course with simple, step-by-step tutorials. Learn to make a range of gorgeous colors using common plants. Build confidence with tools, materials, fibers, dyes, and mordants. And radically deepen your relationship to local plants. Delivered in 10 short lessons over two weeks. With a supportive, private community and personal feedback.
PLANTFOLK will be interactive for two weeks but you'll have access for four months.
1. Daily lessons.
Short, thoughtful, organized, daily lessons released every weekday, Monday- Friday. Meant to be absorbed in just 15 minutes or less. Videos, writing, photos, and prompts. All meant to support your dye experimentations.
2. Detailed tutorial videos & more.
Step-by-step videos with thorough instruction on preparing, scouring, mordanting, and dyeing various fibers (like wool yarn and linen fabric); insights on favorite tools and materials; numerous technique tips; samples of finished work on various textiles; resources and more.
3. Dye garden guidance.
What to plan for your dye garden regardless of the size. How to grow dye plants in pots, windowsills, and large plots. Also, tips on foraging that's ethical, safe, and sustainable.
4. Interactive private community.
A private community classroom will provide multiple opportunities to share your work with other participants, post work-in-progress, and glean insights from the class community. You'll probably make a plant friend, or two.
5. Weekly live studio sessions.
Weekly, live, 45-minute FAQ office hours with me, Katrina Rodabaugh, to answer questions and offer additional insights. All live sessions will also be recorded to view afterwards. (These two sessions are just for extra support-- all critical class content is in the daily lessons.)
6. Access for four months.
This course is designed to be interactive, at your own pace, for two weeks from Nov 11- 22, 2024. But you'll have access to the recorded content for four months (until March 11, 2025) to review videos, writings, photos, FAQ studio sessions, etc.
The greatest gift of working with plant dyes is the deepened relationship with nature. It feels like plant magic--preserved on yarn and cloth.
